With Wero, you can send and receive money instantly across Europe, using just a phone number or email address. In some countries, you can even use Wero to pay when shopping online.
Using Wero is free for all personal bunq users. To pay with Wero, simply activate it once in the bunq app, then you can pay or request money across borders straight from your Home tab.
It’s as simple as entering the amount, adding a phone number or email address, and if the other person uses Wero, your payment or request goes through the Wero network and arrives instantly.
What is Wero?
Wero is a European payment solution backed by leading EU banks. It lets you move money quickly and securely using contact details you already know, with no IBAN needed. In the Netherlands, Wero is the next step in iDEAL's transition to Wero.

Who can use Wero with bunq?
All personal bunq users can use Wero for free. Which features you can use depends on where you live:

How do I activate Wero?
Setting up Wero takes just a moment. Scan a Wero QR code and we'll activate it for you during your first payment. You only need to set up Wero once — after that, it's ready to use, every time you pay.
You can also set up Wero manually in either of these ways:
Through your Settings:
Open your bunq app
Tap on Your Profile in the top left corner
Select Settings
Tap on Wero, then Next
Select the bank account you’d like to link to Wero
Agree to Wero’s T&Cs
Tap on Activate Wero
All done!
Through a Bank Account:
Open your bunq app
Select any Bank Account
Tap on Settings
Tap on Wero under Integrations
Select the bank account you’d like to link to Wero
Agree to Wero’s T&Cs
Tap on Activate Wero
All done!
Once Wero is active, you can send and receive money using just your phone number or email address that are connected to your bunq account.
Heads up: You can always see and manage your linked phone number, email address, and bank accounts in Settings → Wero.
How do I send money with Wero?
Sending money to your friends with Wero is simple:
Go to the 🏠Home tab
Tap 🟠Pay
Enter the amount and choose the account you’d like to pay from
Enter the recipient's phone number or email address
Enter a description (optional)
Review and confirm your payment
If the person you’re sending money to uses Wero or bunq, your payment arrives instantly. If they don't use Wero or bunq yet, you can still send them money another way, for example with a bunq.to link. Friends can also send you money through Wero when your phone number or email address is linked to one of your IBANs in Wero settings.
How do I request money with Wero?
You can easily request money with Wero. Here’s how:
Go to the 🏠Home tab
Tap 🔵Request
Enter the amount and add a short description
Enter the recipient's phone number or email address
Choose the Bank Account you want to receive the money on
Review and send your request
If the person you’re requesting money from uses Wero, they'll see your request directly in their banking app. And if they’re a bunq user, they’ll get an in-app bunq notification.
You can also share a Wero payment link with your friends through a messaging app, or QR code when that's easier. Friends can send you Wero requests too, as long as your phone number or email address is linked to one of your IBANs.
How do I pay a Wero request?
Paying a Wero request is just as simple! There are three ways you can get a Wero payment request:
Your friends use Wero or bunq and send a payment request through. You’ll get an in-app notification. To pay, simply tap on the notification, review the request, and approve it.
Your friends share a Wero link through a messaging app. You’ll get a secure Wero payment link. To pay, simply open it, review the request, and approve the payment.
Your friends share their Wero QR code with you. Simply scan the QR code, review the request, and approve the payment to pay.
Heads up: Sometimes a Wero link shared by your friends through a messaging app may not open correctly on your mobile device. If this happens, no worries — nothing’s wrong with your payment or your account! Simply open the link on your desktop to review and complete the payment. Alternatively, you can ask your friends to send a Wero request, or scan their QR code if they’re nearby.
What’s the status of my payment?
We’ll always display the status of your Wero payments, so you never have to guess or wonder if your payment’s arrived! Here’s how you can check the status of a Wero payment you’re expecting or have sent:
Open the Wero payment
Check the Status of the payment
It will show whether your payment is:
Paid or received
Sent and pending
Sent and received
Failed or expired
How does my Wero QR code work?
When you activate Wero, you get a personal Wero QR code. It lives in your Profile. Here’s how you can access yours:
Open your Home tab
Tap on Your Profile in the top left corner
Switch to Wero
Your Wero QR is displayed here
Your friends can scan it to send you payments or requests through Wero. You can also scan other people's Wero QR codes to pay or request money from them. Easy as that!
Which Bank Accounts can I link to Wero?
You can use Wero with any Bank Account that runs in euro, including your Joint Bank Accounts and Child accounts. Euro IBANs from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, and Italy all work.
A few account types of Bank Accounts aren't supported for use with Wero. They are:
Savings Accounts
Business accounts
No worries about keeping track of what works with Wero! If a Bank Account isn't eligible, you won't see it as an option when you pay or request with Wero.
How do I pay online with Wero?
Shopping online in Belgium or Germany? You can easily pay with Wero whenever you see the yellow Wero logo as an option at checkout. No need to get your IBAN or card details. Here’s how you can pay online with Wero from your bunq app:
At checkout, choose Wero as your payment method
Open your bunq app
Tap on the Scan icon in the top-right corner
Scan the QR code displayed at checkout, or select bunq from the bank list
Approve the payment through your bunq app
You can also pay online with Wero by scanning the QR code with your mobile camera. Simply:
At checkout, choose Wero as your payment method
Open your mobile camera
Scan the QR code displayed at checkout
Select bunq
Approve the payment through your bunq app

How do I dispute an online payment I made with Wero?
If you live in Belgium or Germany, you can easily dispute an online payment you made with Wero directly from the payment in the bunq app.
We'll first connect you with the merchant so you can try to resolve the issue together. If this doesn’t work, you can easily submit your dispute directly to Wero. Here’s how:
Open the Wero payment you’d like to dispute
Tap on Report a Problem
Select your issue and continue
We’ll always keep you up to date on the dispute progress. Whenever there’s an update from Wero, we’ll send you a notification with an update on the status of your dispute.
What should I do if I need help with Wero?
If something doesn't look right, for example a payment didn't arrive or you can't activate Wero, contact Support and we'll help you out. Here's how:
