Hey bunqers 🌈,
You can invest with bunq Stocks if you meet the following eligibility requirements:
You have an active and verified Personal account, on any bunq plan
You're 18 years old or older
You live in 🇦🇹 Austria, 🇧🇪 Belgium, 🇫🇷 France, 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇮🇪 Ireland, 🇮🇹 Italy, 🇱🇺 Luxembourg, 🇳🇱 the Netherlands, 🇵🇹 Portugal, 🇸🇰 Slovakia, or 🇪🇸 Spain
You hold a nationality that our trading partner Ginmon accepts, listed below
Heads up: currently, we can't provide stock trading services to nationals of the United States. We're actively working on changing this, and will update this page as soon as there are any news.
Is my nationality accepted by Ginmon?
Ginmon, our trading partner has nationality restrictions. This means that you can only use bunq Stocks if you hold the nationality of one of the following countries.
European Union countries
🇦🇹 Austria, 🇧🇪 Belgium, 🇧🇬 Bulgaria, 🇭🇷 Croatia, 🇨🇾 Cyprus, 🇨🇿 Czech Republic, 🇩🇰 Denmark, 🇪🇪 Estonia, 🇫🇮 Finland, 🇫🇷 France, 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇬🇷 Greece, 🇭🇺 Hungary, 🇮🇪 Ireland, 🇮🇹 Italy, 🇱🇻 Latvia, 🇱🇹 Lithuania, 🇱🇺 Luxembourg, 🇲🇹 Malta, 🇳🇱 Netherlands, 🇵🇱 Poland, 🇵🇹 Portugal, 🇷🇴 Romania, 🇸🇰 Slovakia, 🇸🇮 Slovenia, 🇪🇸 Spain, and 🇸🇪 Sweden
Non-European Union countries
🇦🇷 Argentina, 🇦🇺 Australia, 🇧🇷 Brazil, 🇨🇦 Canada, 🇨🇱 Chile, 🇨🇳 China, 🇨🇴 Colombia, 🇪🇨 Ecuador, 🇭🇰 Hong Kong, 🇮🇸 Iceland, 🇮🇳 India, 🇮🇩 Indonesia, 🇮🇱 Israel, 🇯🇵 Japan, 🇱🇮 Liechtenstein, 🇲🇾 Malaysia, 🇲🇽 Mexico, 🇲🇦 Morocco, 🇳🇿 New Zealand, 🇳🇴 Norway, 🇵🇪 Peru, 🇸🇬 Singapore, 🇰🇷 South Korea, 🇨🇭 Switzerland, 🇹🇷 Turkey, 🇺🇦 Ukraine, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom, 🇺🇾 Uruguay, and 🇻🇪 Venezuela
What if my nationality isn't on the accepted list?
You can still use bunq Stocks if you're a national of one of the following countries:
🇦🇫 Afghanistan, 🇧🇧 Barbados, 🇧🇾 Belarus, 🇧🇫 Burkina Faso, 🇨🇲 Cameroon, 🇨🇺 Cuba, 🇨🇩 Democratic Republic of the Congo, 🇬🇮 Gibraltar, 🇭🇹 Haiti, 🇯🇲 Jamaica, 🇲🇱 Mali, 🇲🇿 Mozambique, 🇲🇲 Myanmar, 🇳🇬 Nigeria, 🇰🇵 North Korea, 🇵🇦 Panama, 🇵🇭 Philippines, 🇷🇺 Russia, 🇸🇳 Senegal, 🇿🇦 South Africa, 🇸🇾 Syria, 🇹🇿 Tanzania, 🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago, 🇺🇬 Uganda, 🇻🇺 Vanuatu, 🇻🇳 Vietnam, 🇾🇪 Yemen
and you can provide a valid ID document or residence permit from an EU country. Here's how you can send the required documents over to us:
Open your bunq app
Tap on your Profile
Open your Support chat
Tell us you'd like to use Stocks and need to add a document
Share a photo of your document in the chat
💡Pro-tip: send a photo of the physical document rather than a scan, a photocopy, or a picture of a screen, and keep the whole document in frame and readable
Once we verify your document, Stocks will be available to you, as long as you meet the remaining eligibility requirements.
Please note: MiFID (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive) regulations require us to collect the primary, or 1st priority, identification documents for each new bunq Stocks user. This means that in addition to holding an eligible nationality, we'll request a specific document type during your Stocks sign up. No worries if you don't know what the primary document type is for your country. We'll always ask you for the right one during your Stocks sign up based on your nationality.
Why can't I use bunq Stocks?
Are you getting an error which says you can't use Stocks? There are 3 main reasons that a Stocks account may not be available to you yet:
Your details don't meet the requirements: check your age, where you live, your nationality, and that your Personal account is active and verified against the eligibility requirements outlined in this page.
We're still missing a document from you: MiFID regulations mean we need your primary identity document before you can start investing.
Something went wrong on our side: if you meet every requirement and Stocks still isn't available, contact our Support team through your bunq app — we'll take a look at your application!
What if I meet all the requirements but still can't use Stocks?
Reach out to our Support team in the bunq app and tell them you meet every requirement but Stocks is still locked. They'll check your profile against the eligibility criteria and find what's holding it up. It helps if you mention:
Where you live and your nationality
The exact message you see in the Stocks tab
When you first tried to sign up
Good to know
bunq doesn’t give trading advice
Manage stocks at your own risk
bunq Stocks is managed through our trading partner Ginmon
