How does it work?
How does it work?

Hey bunqers 🌈,

Yes, you can receive payments to your bunq account from another bank account outside of the SEPA Region! If someone sends money to your bunq account from outside SEPA, the outcome depends on the receiving account type.

How does it work?

Receiving money in your EUR account 🇪🇺

You can receive EUR payments directly into your EUR account.

If someone wants to send you a different currency like USD, their bank will need to convert it to EUR before sending it. If they send a foreign currency directly to your EUR account, the payment will bounce back.

  • Example: 10 USD sent to your EUR account isn't supported and will bounce, unless the sender's bank converts it to EUR first.

All you need to do is make sure that the sending bank converts the amount of the payment into euros before sending the payment to your bunq account. If a payment in a different currency reaches your EUR bunq, it will get bounced back automatically as we only accept euros as a receiving currency into your EUR account.

Receiving money in your Foreign Currency account 🌍

You can receive Foreign Currency payments in their currency directly into your Foreign Currency account, like receiving USD in your USD account. Further information about Foreign Currency sub-accounts can be found here.

On top of that, you can also receive EUR payments into your Foreign Currency accounts. We'll automatically convert the EUR payment into your account's currency for you through our partner, Currencycloud.

  • Example: If someone sends 10 EUR to your USD account, we’ll convert it and credit the payment to you in USD. Easy as that.

Keep in mind that even with a Foreign Currencies account, the transfers are still SWIFT payments. It takes time for these payments to arrive. SWIFT payments can take up to 5 days. There are also fees involved in receiving a SWIFT payment. You can learn more about this here.
