Whatโs an eSIM and how do I get one?
An eSIM is an electronic SIM card that lets you activate and use mobile data plans without needing a physical SIM. Itโs an easy and flexible way to stay connected anywhere in the world. Hereโs how to activate one from the bunq app:

What can I do with my bunq eSIM?
Your bunq eSIM is all about mobile data, keeping you connected wherever your travels take you.
This means you can enjoy:
Messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger
Calling through your favorite apps
Personal hotspot/tethering to share your connection
Heads-up: Regular voice calls and SMS are not supported at the moment.
Who can use the bunq eSIM?
You can use the bunq eSIM if you:
Have a verified account with any bunq Plan
Are between 18 and 76 years old
How can I track my data packages?
Keeping an eye on your data is easy. You can find everything right in the bunq app:
Head to your Profile
Tap on eSIM
You'll see a list of your active packages. Once a package is all used up, it will automatically move to your Expired packages list.
How long does my data package last?
Your eSIM package lasts until either your package time runs out or you've used all of your data โ whichever comes first.
For example, if you grab a 10 GB-30 days package for your trip, 30 days are the maximum time it can last. But, if you're using lots of data and hit 10 GB on day 15, your package will wrap up then. The good news? You can simply get a new data package to stay connected.

What are the prices and plans?
Prices vary by destination based on local offers. To see whatโs available, just check the app for plans and prices. You can choose either country-specific or our worldwide package data plans.
How do I top up my eSIM?
Once we see youโre low on data, weโll let you know with an in-app notification. Just tap on it to easily choose from the available plans. If you miss the notification, you can always follow these steps to top up your balance:
Go to your Profile
Tap the eSIM button to open your eSIM
Tap Add Data
Select your destination and plan
Tap Buy Data, weโll connect you automatically when you land
How can I get free worldwide package data?
If you are a bunq Elite user, you get 8 GB of free worldwide data every year! No need to buy data packages - just install an eSIM from the bunq app and your 8 GB will activate automatically upon arrival at your destination!
Note 1: Even if youโve used up all your vouchers with the old eSIM model, all bunq Elite users will still get an extra 8 GB of free data to use this year.
Note 2: Youโll automatically get a fresh 8 GB of free data every calendar year.
Note 3: The worldwide package only includes the countries where our eSIM service is available.
Iโve installed my eSIM with the old model. What now?
If youโve previously installed eSIMs using the old model, youโll need to download a new eSIM to enjoy the latest benefits:
You can always top up your eSIM in the bunq app, even if you donโt have a connection;
Get access to better, more competitive pricing;
Manage your data directly in the bunq app.
How do I deactivate my eSIM?
iOS users
Go to your iPhoneโs Settings
Tap on โMobile Serviceโ
Tap on the eSIM you want to delete
Scroll down and tap delete eSIM
Android users
Go to your phoneโs Settings
Tap on โConnectionsโ
Go to โSIM managerโ
Select the eSIM you want to delete
Tap โRemoveโ
Can I move my eSIM to a new phone?
Your bunq eSIM is linked to the device you install it on and can't be moved to another phone.
If you want to use your bunq eSIM on a different device, simply install a new one from the bunq app on that phone. Easy as that!
