With bunq ZeroFX, you can spend worldwide with no extra currency exchange fees.

Instead of the usual 3% currency conversion fee, you’ll get the real Mastercard exchange rate — with only a 0.5% adjustment for currency fluctuations.

Do I need to activate ZeroFX?

Nope! ZeroFX is activated by default for all users. It applies to all your cards, and you can always check how much you saved thanks to ZeroFX. Here’s how to do it: 

1. Go to the 💳Cards Tab

2. Tap on ZeroFX 

3. Check how much you saved with ZeroFX

Are there any limits?

The following limits apply:

• bunq Free users can make up to €1,000 ZeroFX payments per year in foreign currencies. All payments beyond the €1,000 are subject to regular 3% currency conversion fees. 

• bunq Core, Pro, and Elite users can make unlimited ZeroFX payments per year.

What is currency fluctuation prevention? 

Currencies fluctuate continuously. To prevent these fluctuations from negatively impacting your account, we averaged them out by adding a 0.5% currency fluctuation prevention to the latest available rate when the markets are open. This means you’ll sometimes have a slightly worse rate, and sometimes have a slightly better rate. But over time this averages out, providing you the best possible rate when spending in non-euro currencies.

How does that apply to me?

The currency fluctuation prevention applies to all currency exchange services within bunq: card payments, ATM withdrawals, and converting your funds between your local currency accounts.

You can view the countries you've visited and saved money with bunq in through our Travel Map in the ZeroFX screen.

What are Travel Tips? 

Good news — wherever you’re headed, we’ve got you covered with Travel Tips. They’re here to help you with everything you need to get prepared and have a smooth trip.

Right below your Travel Stats Map in the ZeroFX screen, you can select the country you're visiting and get all the useful information you’ll need: currency exchange rate, local tipping culture or where to go if you need to use an ATM. Travel Tips include information on:
