Which documents are accepted as a proof of residence?

Hey bunqers 🌈,

As a bank, we operate under strict laws designed to keep you and your money safe. In some cases, we're required to request an official document to confirm your current address.

This quick check helps us make sure your account is secure. Here’s everything you need to know about which type of documents we accept.

Which documents are accepted as a proof of residence?

The following documents are accepted as Proof of Residence ✅

  • A residence permit issued within the past 6 months.

  • A utility bill for gas, water or electricity issued within the past 3 months.

  • Rental agreements issued within the past 1 year.

  • Proof of registration at a municipality or city hall, issued within the past 1 year.

  • Proof of enrollment in school/university for the current academic year.

  • Income Tax Return (ITR) issued within the past 1 year.

  • 🇳🇱 Dutch residents: Proof of Dutch BSN ownership, issued within the past 1 year. Please note, this is different from the proof of Dutch RNI for non-residents.

  • 🇮🇹 Italian residents: Certificato di Residenza, issued within the past 6 months. You can request this for free through the ANRP.

Please provide us with clear pictures or a PDF version of the complete, original document. Screenshots are not accepted.

Are there any other requirements?

We can only accept your proof of residence if the following information is on the document:

  • Your name

  • Your full address

  • Date of issue

  • Your signature and the landlord’s on a rental agreement

  • Logo of the company on the utility bill

Which documents aren’t accepted as Proof of Residence?

We can’t accept the following documents as Proof of Residence 🚫

  • Bank statements

  • Cell phone bills or any other bills

  • Employment contracts

  • Proof of property ownership

  • Proof of temporary stay

  • Address on an ID/Passport

  • Payslips

  • Short term permits from hostels/hotels

  • Dutch RNI

I’ve already sent a document. Why do I need to send it again?

We know it can be a hassle, but sometimes we’ll ask you to send your proof of residence again. This only happens if your first document didn't quite meet the requirements, for reasons like:

  • The document type isn't accepted as proof of residence

  • The document is too old

  • The document is blurry

  • It's a scanned copy

  • It isn't the full document: some important information, pages or a part of a page isn't shown

What if I don’t have any of the documents listed above?

We'll only ask you for a document if we're legally required to do so. In case you can’t provide us with such a document, we're not able to complete the account verification. We’ll gladly proceed with your verification as soon as you obtain one of these documents.

Why do I need to provide Proof of Residence for my Company’s Director?

If you have a Business account, we may request Proof of Residence from the company's directors as part of our standard security checks. This is to confirm they live within the European Economic Area (EEA) and helps keep your business account fully secure and compliant.

The same documents listed in the article above are accepted for Directors.
