With Bizum, you can send and receive money instantly using just your mobile phone. It's a mobile payment service popular in Spain that makes splitting bills, paying friends, and shopping online fast and easy.
Before you start, make sure you're eligible to use Bizum with your bunq account.
Who can use Bizum?
To use Bizum with bunq, you must meet all of the following requirements:
You're 18 years old or older
You have a verified Personal account with an active bunq Free, bunq Core, bunq Pro, or bunq Elite plan
You have an active Spanish IBAN
You have a phone number linked to your bunq account
Requirements based on your nationality and residency
Your eligibility also depends on whether you're a Spanish national, a Spanish resident, or a non-resident:
Spanish nationals
You can activate Bizum using your Spanish DNI
Spanish residents (non-Spanish nationals)
You must provide a valid NIE (Spanish TIN) to activate Bizum
You cannot activate Bizum using only your passport
Non-Spanish nationals and non-residents
You can activate Bizum using a valid passport, as long as you meet all other requirements
Important: To use Bizum, you need a Spanish IBAN. Non-residents can only get a Spanish IBAN through the "International IBAN" feature, which is only available on bunq Pro and bunq Elite plans
This means if you're on bunq Free or bunq Core and you're not a Spanish resident, you won't be able to use Bizum
Not sure if you're eligible? Check your plan and identification documents before trying to activate Bizum. This helps you avoid unnecessary activation attempts.
How do I set up Bizum?
Once you've confirmed you're eligible, follow these steps:
Tap on your Profile in the top left corner
Go to ⚙️ Settings
Select Bizum
Turn the toggle on
Choose the Bank Account you want to link to Bizum
Confirm the phone number linked to your account
That's it—you're ready to use Bizum.
How do I change my linked Bank Account?
Want to switch which Bank Account is connected to Bizum? Here's how:
Tap on your Profile in the top left corner
Go to ⚙️ Settings
Select Bizum
Tap on Linked Bank Account
Select the Bank Account you want to use
Confirm the change via SMS confirmation code
How do I pay via Bizum?
Paying someone with Bizum is quick:
Tap on the Bank Account linked to Bizum
Tap on More
Select Bizum
Tap on 🟠 Pay
Choose the recipient and enter the amount
Review the payment and send it
How do I request money via Bizum?
Need to request money from a friend? Here's what to do:
Tap on the Bank Account linked to Bizum
Tap on More
Select Bizum
Tap on 🔵 Request
Choose a person from your contact list and enter the amount
Review the request and send it
How do I pay online via Bizum?
When you place an online payment using Bizum, you'll receive a push notification. Tap the notification to open the bunq app and either approve or decline the request.
Missed the notification? No problem:
Tap on the 🛎️ bell icon in the top left corner
Tap on the notification
Approve or Decline the payment
Can I recall a Bizum payment?
At the moment, you can't recall Bizum payments directly in the app. However, you can receive Bizum payment recalls and easily approve or deny them.

What do I do if I get an error during verification?
If you see an error saying "This type of identification is not accepted" when submitting your Spanish DNI, try this quick fix:
Re-submit your document three times in a row. This will automatically allow you to continue your verification.
Need to upgrade your plan?
If you're a non-resident and need a Spanish IBAN to use Bizum, consider upgrading to bunq Pro or bunq Elite to unlock the International IBAN feature.
