Hey bunqers 🌈,
With bunq, you always get one of the best interest rates on the market 🚀
🚀 Your MassInterest rates went up on October 15, 2026 at 09:30 CEST. Bonus Interest is now 3.11% up from 3.01%. Starting Interest is now 1.61% on savings below your threshold and up to €10,000. Base Interest stays at 1.51% on savings below your threshold and above €10,000.
Personal Accounts
For 🇪🇺 EUR Savings Accounts
When you first start saving with bunq, you’ll earn the Bonus Rate (3.11%) on all your Savings until your first threshold calculation.
Your threshold is the highest balance held in your Savings Accounts during the previous half of the year (January to June, or July to December). The threshold is calculated twice a year on:
January 1 (00:00 UTC): based on your highest balance between July 1 (00:00 UTC) to December 31 (23:59 UTC)
July 1 (00:00 UTC): based on your highest balance between January 1 (00:00 UTC) to June 30 (23:59 UTC)
Once your threshold has been set, you’ll earn:
The current Bonus Interest of 3.11%* on any savings above your threshold, up to €100,000. The Bonus Rate is designed to reward you for growing your savings, so every euro you add above your highest balance earns the highest rate.
The current Starting Interest of 1.61%* on savings below your threshold and up to €10,000
The current Base Interest of 1.51%* on any savings below your threshold and above €10,000
Example: You have €20,000 saved and a €15,000 threshold. €10,000 earns 1.61%, €5,000 earns 1.51%, and €5,000 earns 3.11%. Whereas if your threshold is €0 because you just started saving, all your savings earn bonus interest of 3.11% until your first threshold calculation.

How do we calculate MassInterest?
Your interest is calculated every day from 23:59 UTC and this is what happens:
We start by checking all the Savings Accounts you have per currency;
We sum the balances of all accounts;
We consider all the payments made and received during the day;
If you have a Joint Savings Account (fully, legally shared between multiple people), we divide the balance of the account equally by the number of owners;
We find the daily minimum sum of balances across all accounts;
We apply the daily interest to the daily minimum of the sum of your Savings balances to calculate your daily interest.
Please note: In a leap year, your daily interest is slightly lower, because the annual rate is spread over 366 days.
When will I get my interest payout?
You’ll receive your weekly interest (calculated based on the lowest balance you have in your Savings Account everyday) on your weekly Payday.
To check if your Payday is enabled, follow these steps:
Tap on your 👤Profile in the top left corner
Tap on ⚙️Settings
Scroll down and tap on Rewards
Here, you can check if your Payday is enabled, your assigned Payday weekday and which account your interest gets deposited into.
You won’t earn interest if:
Your Payday toggle is disabled
You don’t have an open bunq Savings Account
You don’t have enough balance to generate €0.005 in interest by your Payday
Please note: in case of a negative balance in any of your Bank Accounts, we sum up the total balance of your account. If the total balance of your account is negative, the interest balance is zero for each day until resolved.
You can find out more about your weekly Payday.
How do I calculate MassInterest for a Personal Account?
Your interest is paid out weekly, so you can start benefiting from it right away. Here’s a breakdown of our annual interest rates for Personal Savings Accounts:
Euro Savings Accounts: 1.61%, 1.51%, or 3.11%, depending on your threshold
Foreign Currency Savings Accounts vary as follows: 30.01% for 🇹🇷 TRY, 4.03% for 🇿🇦 ZAR, 4.01% for 🇵🇱 PLN, 3.56% for 🇦🇺 AUD, 3.51% on 🇬🇧 GBP and 🇺🇸 USD, 3.32% for 🇳🇴 NOK, and 2.02% for 🇦🇪 AED
🇪🇺 If you’re a resident in a European country
Example 1:
Between July and December 2026, your highest savings balance was €5,000. On January 1, 2027, we calculate your threshold, which is set at €5,000. Until June 30, 2027, you earn the annual Starting Rate of 1.61% on savings up to this threshold, which equals €80.5 a year.
Starting Rate calculation:
Annual interest: €5,000 × 1.61% = €80.5
Daily interest: €80.5 ÷ 365 = €0.22055
Weekly interest: €0.22055 × 7 = €1.54
In January 2027, you add €7,000 to your savings, bringing your total balance to €12,000. The extra €7,000 is above your threshold, so it earns the current annual Bonus Rate of 3.11%. Even though your balance is now above €10,000, the Base Rate doesn’t apply, because your threshold is €10,000 or less. If you keep this extra amount until June 2027, it earns €217.7 a year in bonus interest.
Bonus interest calculation:
Annual interest: €7,000 × 3.11% = €217.7
Daily bonus interest: €217.7 ÷ 365 = €0.59644
Weekly bonus interest: €0.59644 × 7 = €4.18
Total weekly interest:
€1.54 (Starting Rate interest) + €4.18 (bonus interest) = €5.72 weekly interest.
Example 2:
Between July 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026, your highest savings balance was €10,000. This becomes your threshold for the next period, starting January 1, 2027.
If you withdraw €9,500 from your account before January 1, 2027, leaving only €500 in your savings, your threshold remains €10,000 because it’s based on the highest balance in your Savings Accounts during the previous half of the year.
If you then deposit €9,500 back into your account on January 2, 2027, bringing your total balance back to €10,000, you will only earn the annual Starting Rate of 1.61% on your savings. This is because your balance hasn’t exceeded your threshold of €10,000.
To earn the Bonus Rate, your balance needs to go above your €10,000 threshold. For example, if you save an additional €2,000 in February 2027, bringing your total to €12,000, that extra €2,000 earns the current annual Bonus Rate of 3.11% straight away. On July 1, 2027, your threshold is updated to your new highest balance of €12,000.
Example 3:
You open a Savings Account on November 2, 2026, with a starting threshold of €0. This means you’ll earn the current annual Bonus Rate of 3.11% on all savings until the next threshold calculation date, January 1, 2027. If you deposit €2,000, it will earn €62.2 annually in bonus interest.
Bonus interest calculation (before January 1, 2027):
Daily bonus interest: €62.2 ÷ 365 = €0.17041
Weekly bonus interest: €0.17041 × 7 = €1.19
On January 1, 2027, your threshold is recalculated based on your highest balance between November 2, 2026, and December 31, 2026. Since your highest balance was €2,000, your threshold is set to €2,000. If you deposit another €3,000 after January 1, bringing your total balance to €5,000, you’ll earn the annual Starting Rate of 1.61% on the threshold amount of €2,000 and the current annual Bonus Rate of 3.11% on the additional €3,000.
Starting Rate calculation:
Annual interest on €2,000: €2,000 × 1.61% = €32.2
Daily interest: €32.2 ÷ 365 = €0.08822
Weekly interest: €0.08822 × 7 = €0.62
Bonus interest calculation:
Annual interest on €3,000: €3,000 × 3.11% = €93.3
Daily bonus interest: €93.3 ÷ 365 = €0.25562
Weekly bonus interest: €0.25562 × 7 = €1.79
Total weekly interest (after January 1, 2027):
€0.62 (Starting Rate interest) + €1.79 (bonus interest) = €2.41 weekly interest.
Example 4:
Between July and December 2026, your highest savings balance was €25,000, so your threshold from January 1, 2027 is €25,000. In January 2027, you have €32,000 in your Savings Accounts. You’ll earn all 3 rates:
Starting Rate: €10,000 x 1.61% = €161 annually, or €3.09 weekly
Base Rate: €15,000 (from €10,000 up to your €25,000 threshold) x 1.51% = €226.5 annually, or €4.34 weekly
Bonus Rate: €7,000 (above your threshold) x 3.11% = €217.7 annually, or €4.18 weekly
Total weekly interest:
€3.09 + €4.34 + €4.18 = €11.61 weekly interest.
If instead you have less in your Savings Accounts from January to July, with the same €25,000 threshold:
€15,000 saved: €10,000 earns the Starting Rate (€3.09 weekly), and €5,000 earns the Base Rate (€5,000 × 1.51% = €75.5 annually, or €1.45 weekly). That’s €4.54 weekly interest. You don’t earn the Bonus Rate, because your balance is below your threshold.
€8,000 saved: All €8,000 earns the Starting Rate (€8,000 × 1.61% = €128.8 annually, or €2.47 weekly). The Base Rate only applies to savings above €10,000, and the Bonus Rate only applies to savings above your threshold.
If you’re saving in Foreign Currencies from a Personal account
You’ll get a different MassInterest rate depending on each foreign currency you save in. This means you’ll get 30.01% for 🇹🇷 TRY, 4.03% for 🇿🇦 ZAR, 4.01% for 🇵🇱 PLN, 3.56% for 🇦🇺 AUD, 3.51% on 🇬🇧 GBP and 🇺🇸 USD, 3.32% for 🇳🇴 NOK, and 2.02% for 🇦🇪 AED. You can always see the most up-to-date list of available currencies and their corresponding interest rates straight in the app!
For example, if you have $100,000 in your bunq Savings Account every day, you can earn up to $3,510 per year. The interest you earn will be calculated and accrued daily but paid out weekly, which means you earn approximately $9.62 per day, or $67.31 per week, before currency conversion.
You can earn interest on each of your Foreign Currency Savings Accounts for total balances up to the equivalent of €100,000. If your Foreign Currency Savings balance exceeds the €100,000 equivalent, only the portion up to that cap earns interest in that foreign currency.
How do I calculate MassInterest for a Business Account?
The 0.75% interest rate is an annual interest rate for your Business Savings Account.
When you have €100,000 on your bunq Savings Account every day, then you get €750 per year.
The day in which you will be paid your interest can be seen in your Payday.
The interest you earn will be calculated and accrued daily but paid out weekly. This makes €750 / 365 = €2.05 per day. Thus, you’ll earn €2.05 x 7 days = €14.35 per week.
If you’re saving in Foreign Currencies from a Business account
You’ll get a different annual MassInterest rate depending on the foreign currency you save in. The rates are 22.93% for 🇹🇷 TRY, 3.08% for 🇿🇦 ZAR, 3.06% for 🇵🇱 PLN, 2.72% for 🇦🇺 AUD, 2.53% for 🇬🇧 GBP, 🇳🇴 NOK, and 🇺🇸 USD, and 1.54% for 🇦🇪 AED. You can always see the most up-to-date list of available currencies and their corresponding interest rates straight in the app!
For example, if you have $100,000 in your business bunq Savings Account every day, then you get $2,530 per year, based on the 2.53% interest rate. The interest you earn will be calculated and accrued daily but paid out weekly. This makes $2,530 / 365 = $6.93 per day. Thus, you’ll earn $6.93 x 7 days = $48.51 per week, before the currency conversion.
You can earn interest on each of your Foreign Currency Savings Accounts for balances up to the equivalent of €100,000. If your Foreign Currency Savings balance exceeds the €100,000 equivalent, only the portion up to that cap earns interest in that foreign currency.
How do I calculate MassInterest for Joint Savings Account?
Every member is receiving the interest rate which applies to them as per country and Savings Account currency on an equally divided part of the total amount from all balances in the Joint Savings Account.
If your Joint Savings Account receives a weekly interest of €100 and you co-own it with one more friend you’ll each receive interest for €50 each (the interest earned on your Joint Savings Account divided by two).
Keep in mind that for your individual Personal Account you can receive MassInterest up to €100,000. This limit covers your Personal Savings Account/s as well as your Joint Savings Account/s.
What’s the minimum amount I need to have in my Savings Account?
🇪🇺 If you’re from a European country
To earn MassInterest on your Payday, you need to have accrued more than €0.005 in total interest by then. This means you need to have earned at least €0.00073 in daily interest over 7 days (calculated as €0.0051 ÷ 7 = €0.00073).
With the annual Starting Rate of 1.61%*, the daily interest rate is 0.00441% (calculated as 1.61% ÷ 365 days).
To find the minimum deposit required to meet the daily interest goal, divide the daily interest requirement by the daily interest rate: 0.00073 ÷ 0.00441% = €16.55
For simplicity, we recommend rounding up and maintaining at least €17 in savings to ensure you receive an interest payout on your Payday.
*The Starting Interest, Base Interest, and Bonus Interest are variable and subject to change.
If you’re saving in Foreign Currencies from a Personal or Business account
To earn MassInterest on your Payday, you need to have accrued more than €0.005 — or the equivalent in your foreign currency — in total interest by then. Because interest is calculated on your daily balance, you need to hold a certain minimum amount in your account to cross this payout threshold.
The exact minimum varies depending on the currency and its interest rate. Here’s an example of how it works in practice:
If you’re saving in USD, you’ll need to accrue at least $0.00071 in daily interest over 7 days (calculated as $0.005 ÷ 7).
With an annual interest rate of 3.51%, the daily interest rate is 0.00962% (calculated as 3.51% ÷ 365 days).
To find the minimum balance required to meet that daily interest, divide the daily interest requirement by the daily interest rate: $0.00071 ÷ 0.00962% = $7.43.
For simplicity, we recommend rounding up and keeping at least $8 in your USD savings to make sure you receive an interest payout on your Payday.
🇪🇺 If you’re from any other European country and saving from a Business account
To earn MassInterest on your Payday, you need to accrue more than €0.0050 in total interest by then, which means earning at least €0.00073 in daily interest over 7 days (calculated as €0.00073 × 7 = €0.0050).
With an annual interest rate of 0.75%, the daily interest rate is 0.00205% (calculated as 0.75% ÷ 365 days).
To find the minimum deposit required to meet the daily interest goal, divide the daily interest requirement by the daily interest rate: €0.00073 ÷ 0.00205% = €35.61.
For simplicity, we recommend rounding up and maintaining at least €36 in savings to ensure you receive an interest payout on your Payday.
Why didn’t my threshold update?
When you make a payment, the money doesn’t always leave your bank account right away. At times, there may be a short delay between the time when you make the transfer and when it’s fully processed. This can happen for a few reasons:
Extra layer of security – Due to the Safety Shield, some payments will take 1 day longer to go through to help keep your account secure.
Time-zone difference – We calculate your threshold based on UTC time. So if you made a payment before 23:59 in local time, it might still count toward the next day’s calculation.
The payment will be included in the threshold recalculation only once it is fully processed.
How can I change my payout Bank Account?
You can only change your payout Bank Account to one of the same currency as your Payday earnings. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below:
Go to 👤 Profile
Tap on ⚙️ Settings in the top right corner
Scroll down and tap on Rewards
Tap on Paid to
Select the desired Bank Account
Why don’t I see the new rates yet?
You benefit from the new interest rates from 9:30 CEST on October 15, 2026, even if you don’t see them in your app yet. This is simply because older versions of the app don’t show them.
To see your new rates, update your bunq app to the latest version in your App Store or Google Play 🏃

Your threshold is the highest balance held in your Savings Accounts during the previous half of the year (January to June, or July to December). The threshold is calculated twice a year on:

Once your threshold has been set, you’ll earn:
The current Bonus Interest of 3.11%* on any savings above your threshold, up to €100,000. The Bonus Rate is designed to reward you for growing your savings, so every euro you add above your highest balance earns the highest rate.

We start by checking all the Savings Accounts you have per currency;
We sum the balances of all accounts;
We consider all the payments made and received during the day;
If you have a Joint Savings Account (fully, legally shared between multiple people), we divide the balance of the account equally by the number of owners;
We find the daily minimum sum of balances across all accounts;
