How do I access my Budgeting Screen?
To get a clear overview of the Budgeting features available to you, simply:
Open your bunq app
Go to your Home tab
Tap on Total Spent this month at the top of the screen

Total Spent Widgets
You can check out how much you spent in the top three widgets displayed on your screen.
Spending Insights
Spending insights is a graph that provides real-time, current data about your monthly expenses.
You can add external Bank Accounts to your Spending Insights overview for a comprehensive view of all your finances. Your Budgeting screen will now reflect all your spending, both within and outside bunq. The steps on how to filter the Bank Accounts in your Spending Insights can be found here.
Adding external Bank Accounts is currently available for our Dutch, German and French users. We’ll keep you updated as we’re adding more countries! More details on the Dutch, German and French banks available for the matter can be found here.
The Budgeting screen allows you to easily compare with previous months, making it a powerful tool for managing your finances. You can view your spending per category and easily set spending limits, per category. When you’ve spent 80%, 95% or 100% of a spending limit, the bunq app will send you a notification, making it easier to stay on budget without having to think about it.
From your category graph, you can create dedicated Bank Accounts for specific categories and budget from them automatically. You can budget for yourself or together with your partner by adding your Joint Budgeting Bank Account to the overview. See how you can do so, here 📊
Below the Budgeting graph you’ll find a pie chart where you see a breakdown of your monthly spend per category. By categorizing all your monthly expenses, you easily see where your money goes, empowering you to make informed decisions about your finances!

Note: If you have one or more Joint (Savings) Accounts at bunq, any category settings you change or Budgets you create will only apply to your own Personal account.
How can I set up Spending Limits and Filter Bank Accounts?
From the Budgeting screen you’re able to see the total expenses you’ve spent for this month, set a starting date, set spending limits, and filter Bank Accounts.
Set starting date
Go to the Budgeting screen
Select either the Total Spent graph or the Pie Chart
Tap the three dots in the top right corner
Tap on Starting date
Choose the date you want your monthly spending breakdown to start from.
Set spending limit
Go to the Budgeting screen
Select the Total Spent graph on top
Tap the three dots in the top right corner
Tap on Set spending limit
Set your desired limit
Filter Bank Accounts
Go to the Budgeting screen
Select the Total Spent graph or the Pie Chart
Tap the three dots in the top right corner
Tap on Filter Bank Accounts
Select the Bank Accounts you want to see the total expenses of
AutoVAT
AutoVAT automatically calculates and sets aside VAT on all your incoming and outgoing payments, saving you valuable time: whenever it’s time to pay taxes, you’ll already have a dedicated Bank Account with the right amount on it 🧮
To set the AutoVAT of your Business account, follow the steps mentioned here.
Salary Sorter
With Salary Sorter, you can automatically organize your budget every time you get paid. Sort your salary into categories like bills, savings, daily expenses, or even invest into Stocks. This saves you time and effort so you always have enough set aside for essentials like rent, utilities, or groceries. You’ll be able to consistently invest in Stocks to build your assets without having to think about it
