Why did a blocked merchant charge me?
It can be frustrating to see a charge from a merchant you've already blocked. When you block a merchant in the bunq app, we prevent them from making new charges to your account.
However, a payment can sometimes still go through in a few specific situations:
The merchant uses a different business terminal: They might process the payment using a different Merchant ID than the one you blocked.
The payment is processed without prior authorisation: In some cases, a merchant can process a charge without sending us a notification first. This means we don’t have a chance to apply the block.
❗ Important: Blocking a merchant does not automatically cancel any ongoing subscriptions you have with them.
If a blocked merchant has charged you, here’s how you can resolve it:
Contact the merchant: Reach out to them directly to ask for more details and request a refund.
Cancel your subscription: Make sure to cancel any active subscriptions through the merchant's website or app to prevent future charges.
Request a chargeback: If you had already cancelled the subscription and were still charged, you can request a chargeback in the bunq app. Please provide proof of your cancellation.
