Hey bunqers 🌈,
The standard IBAN is Dutch (NL), since we're a fully licensed European bank with a banking license issued by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). But whether you're signing up from another European country or you're an existing user looking for more options, getting the right IBAN for your situation is simple.
Here's an overview of what's available and how to get it.
Foreign IBANs
When you sign up for bunq from Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, or Italy, the app automatically connects you to your local branch, so you get a local IBAN (DE, FR, ES, IE, or IT) right from the start. No extra steps, no hassle. Just easy and secure banking.
Foreign IBANs are available to all bunqers when they sign up from Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, or Italy, on any bunq plan (bunq Free, bunq Core, bunq Pro, or bunq Elite).
International Bank Accounts
With International Bank Accounts, you can open a bank account with a German, French, Spanish, Irish, or Italian IBAN, even if you live outside of those countries. This way, you can bank with details that fit where you live.
International Bank Accounts are available for verified bunq Pro or bunq Elite users across the EEA.
Here's how you can open an International Bank Account:
Go to your Home tab
Tap on Add an Extra Bank Account
Select International Bank Account
Choose your IBAN
Personalize your account
Tap on Create and you're all done!
Good to know for French and Italian IBANs
If you're getting a French or Italian IBAN as your International Bank Account, you'll be asked to re-verify your identity before your new IBAN account is created. This is a standard requirement under French and Italian banking rules to keep you safe.
Where can I find my IBAN?
To see your IBAN, follow these steps:
Go to your Home tab
Select your Bank Account
The IBAN of your Bank Account is displayed at the top of your Bank Account Details
