Why did I get a message asking me to log back into an existing account?

To keep your banking life easy, we make sure every user has one single, verified account. This prevents duplicate accounts and keeps you and your money fully secure. 

If you’ve signed up for a bunq account but your verification is taking longer than 5 minutes, it may be because your previously created bunq account is still active. In these cases, we’ll redirect you to your old account via a secure in-app notification. 

Why did I get a message asking me to log back into an existing account?

If you get a notification from our Support asking you to log back into your existing account, this means you've previously opened and still have a verified account with bunq. The notification will contain your old login details and take you through the steps to log back into your existing account.

All you need to do is log back into your original bunq account and you’ll be able to start banking right away. You can also follow the steps below: 

  1. Long-press on your Profile in the top-left corner

  2. Tap on More Options

  3. Tap on the + Add a User Account

  4. Enter the phone number or email address linked to your active bunq account

  5. Enter your Security code

Don’t remember which phone number or email address you used to sign up for your existing account? 

No worries, we’ll send the phone number or email address you used to sign up for your previously verified account over in the secure message from our Support.

Don’t have access to your old phone number or email address? 

Has your phone number or email address changed? If you are unable to log in because you no longer have access to your old number or email address, just reply to our message via the in-app Support Chat and let us know about this.

We'll manually update your verified account’s contact details for you, and link your new phone number or email address to your old account. 

To do this and move forward safely, we will need to verify your identity, so please include the following in your request: 

  • A clear selfie while holding your valid ID document. This helps us confirm that you’re the account holder. 

  • A phone number or email address you currently have access to

Once we confirm your identity, we can link this new phone number to your existing account so you can log in again.
