Now, you can get an Italian IBAN directly in your bunq app 🇮🇹

Receive your salary, set up direct debits, and manage your money like a true local in Italy.

Italian IBANs are available for all bunqers residing in Italy, and to bunqers with a bunq Pro or a bunq Elite plan residing anywhere across the EEA.

How can I get a Bank Account with an Italian IBAN?

If you’re new to bunq and live in Italy

If you’re an Italian resident and don’t have a bunq account yet — simply sign-up and complete your identity verification. All of your Personal and Business Bank Accounts will be created with an Italian IBAN by default 🇮🇹

Sign up for bunq: Fill in your personal information, this may include place of birth, source of income, or occupation
Verify your identity: scan your identification document and take a selfie 🤳
Your bunq account with your Italian IBAN bank account is ready-to-go

The coolest part about this is that Italian IBANs are automatically set-up for all the plans we offer, including bunq Free, Core, Pro, Elite and bunq Pack, when you're a new bunqer signing up with an Italian address.

If you’re using bunq and already live in Italy

Already using bunq? We’ve got you covered! To make it as easy for you as possible, we’ll display a pop-up in your Home tab to Get an Italian IBAN. Tap on it to obtain your new, Italian IBAN. Here’s the step-by-step:

Open your bunq app
Tap on Get an Italian IBAN
Go through the verification flow.
Done — you're an Italian user now! All your new Bank Accounts will automatically have Italian IBANs going forward.

During verification, we’ll ask you for all the missing information to start using IT IBANS. This might include things like re-identification with a valid ID, place of birth, source of income, or occupation.

To keep your banking easy and flexible, you’ll always have the option of getting your preferred IBAN by setting up an International Bank Account.

If you’re already using bunq and move to Italy

It's super simple to get an Italian IBAN account, even if you're already using bunq and have Dutch IBAN accounts. First, you can update your address in your bunq app to keep all of your personal information up-to-date. Here's how:

Go to Your Profile
Tap on Personal Information
Tap on Address and add your new Italian address details
Save it

You'll get a pop-up in your Home tab to obtain your new, Italian IBAN. Simply tap on the pop-up event and:

Tap on Get an Italian IBAN
Go through the verification flow
Done — all your new Bank Accounts will automatically have Italian IBANs

During the verification flow, we’ll ask you for all the missing information to start using IT IBANS. This might include things like re-identification with a valid ID, place of birth, source of income, or occupation.

Going forward, all newly created Bank Accounts will automatically have an Italian IBAN. To keep your banking easy and flexible, you’ll always have the option of getting your preferred IBAN by setting up an International Bank Account.

What if I'm not an Italian resident but I still want an Italian IBAN?

If you're on the bunq Pro or the bunq Elite plan, you can easily add an International Bank Account, and choose one with an Italian IBAN! Here's what you need to do:

Go to your Home tab
Tap on Add an Extra Bank Account
Select International Bank Account
Choose an Italian IBAN
Tap on Start verification and go with the flow
Re-confirm your phone number
Agree to our T&Cs
Once you're verified, your new Italian IBAN bank account is ready-to-go!

Which other IBANs are available?

You can get an Italian, German, French, Spanish, or Irish IBANs if you’re a verified bunq Pro (Personal and Business) and bunq Elite (Personal and Business) user, living in the EEA.

What happens to my old IBAN accounts?

If you’ve been with us for a while, your older, non-Italian IBANs for your Personal Account, Savings Account, or a Joint Account will keep their original IBAN. To get an account with an Italian IBAN, you will need to open a new account.
