Hey bunqers 🌈,
As we grow across Europe, we’re committed to making banking easy for you, wherever you are. From now on you can have your own German IBAN and bank like a local in Germany 🇩🇪
German IBANs are available for all bunqers residing in Germany, and to bunqers with a bunq Pro or a bunq Elite plan residing anywhere across the EEA.
How can I get a German IBAN?
If you're new to bunq and live in Germany
Sign up for bunq
Re-confirm your phone number and agree to the T&Cs
Your bunq account with your German IBAN bank account is ready-to-go
German IBANs are automatically set up on every plan we offer, including bunq Free, Core, Pro, Elite, when you're a new bunqer signing up with a German address.
You can check which identity documents we currently accept here 🔎
If you're already using bunq and move to Germany
It's super simple to get a German IBAN account, even if you already use bunq with Dutch IBAN accounts. First, update your address to keep your details up to date:
Go to Your Profile
Tap on Personal Information
Tap on Address and add your new German address details
Save it
You'll then get a pop-up in your Home tab to obtain your new German IBAN. Tap on the pop-up event and:
Tap on Get a German IBAN
Done! You're a German user now, and all your new Bank Accounts will automatically have German IBANs
What happens to my old IBANs?
You're free to keep and use them as usual — they won't change! Just keep in mind that if you choose to go for a German IBAN all your new Bank Accounts will receive German IBANs automatically.
And what if I am already verified and want to stay with my Dutch IBANs?
Our top priority is to give you freedom, meaning that if you are a German user with a verified bunq account and Dutch IBANs, you can decide to keep your Dutch IBANs. When you choose this, all your new Bank Accounts will receive Dutch IBANs automatically as before. However, if you change your mind later, worry not - you can always choose to get German IBANs via your address settings (once available for already verified users). Bear in mind that this option is not available the other way around. Once you opt for getting German IBANs, you can no longer change the IBAN country as you reside in Germany. You can still keep your old Dutch IBANs unchanged 👍
What if I'm not a German resident but I still want a German IBAN?
So you don't live in Germany but want a German IBAN? We've got you.
If you're on the bunq Pro or bunq Elite plan, you can easily add an International Bank Account and choose one with a German IBAN! Here's how:

Does bunq offer P-Konto?
Even though we support German IBANs, our banking license is from the Netherlands so we don't offer P-Konto currently. We're legally required to follow instructions from authorities if it concerns a garnishment or account seizure. Learn more here.
Do you report to Schufa?
The short answer is no, we don’t.
To give you the freedom to use your account on your terms, we ensure that you can't fall into debt by not offering loans or overdraft. This way you can freely use your money without the burden of debt. You can learn more about this here.
