Hey bunqers 🌈,
In order to get the full travelling experience, we've launched International Bank Accounts and Foreign Currencies. However, both features have a different way to improve your travel experience, see exactly how below.
What is the difference?
International Bank Accounts
International Bank Accounts give you a local IBAN from another European country IGerman, French, Irish, Spanish, or Italian) and operate in euro. This means that you open a Bank Account with one of our foreign branches and your IBAN matches the country you chose.
Important note: All the Bank Accounts you open within the app, no matter of the country code in the IBAN, are supported and opened by bunq NL.
Foreign Currencies
Foreign Currencies let you send, receive and pay in one of the many currencies we support. For example, you can have a South African Rand foreign currency account, but not a South African IBAN. When you open a Foreign Currencies Account, you'll get a GB IBAN since the foreign currency is held in the UK rather than the Netherlands. Learn more in our Foreign Currencies article.
Which one is right for me?
Choose an International Bank Account if you need local account details in another European country, for example to get paid or pay bills locally.
Choose a Foreign Currencies Account if you need to hold or move money in a currency other than the euro.
