Hey bunqers 🌈,

It’s super easy to set up your salary to get paid into your bunq account. There are two ways and you can pick the way that fits you best:

  • Share your bunq IBAN: the easiest way if you're setting your salary up from scratch or just need to hand over a new account number

  • Use Switch Service: the easiest way if you're moving from another bank and want your salary and all other recurring payments, like your utility bills or direct debits, moved over for you

Keep in mind: Your account needs to be verified before your salary can arrive.

How do I share my bunq IBAN with my employer?

Your IBAN is in the app, and either you or your employer adds it wherever your salary details are kept. Here’s where you can find your IBAN:

  1. Go to your Home Tab

  2. Tap the Bank Account you want your salary paid into

  3. Copy the IBAN shown in your Bank Account Details

  4. Give it to your employer, or update it yourself in your payroll or HR portal

  5. Your next salary will arrive in that account

Your bunq IBAN works for getting your salary from anywhere in Europe 🇪🇺This is because we’re  a fully licensed European bank, so your IBAN is legal and accepted in every EU country. If your employer won't accept it, you can report it and we'll help.

How do I move my salary from another bank with Switch Service?

Switch Service moves your incoming salary and recurring payments from your other bank to bunq for you, so nothing slips through the cracks.

  1. Start Switch Service in the app

  2. Choose the Bank Account you’d like to redirect your salary and other recurring payments to

  3. Confirm your old bank

  4. Your incoming salary and recurring payments move over automatically

Switch Service is available in eligible countries. To check whether it works for you, check out our Switch Service page.

When will my salary arrive at bunq?

Timing depends on your employer, so it's worth asking them when a change to your account details takes effect. As a rule, if you update your details before the 10th day of the month, the change usually applies to that same month's pay cycle. After that, it may only apply the following month, so it helps to set things up early.

Once your employer sends your salary, it arrives as soon as they process the payment. Most euro payments within Europe arrive the same day.

What if my salary hasn't arrived?

First, check these three things:

  • Your account is verified — an unverified account can't receive payments

  • Your employer has the correct IBAN, including the country letters at the start

  • Your employer has already run the pay cycle for this month

Still nothing? Ask your employer for the payment confirmation, then reach out to us in the app and we'll look into it with you.

Does receiving my salary cost anything?

No. Receiving euro payments into your bunq Bank Account is always free, so the full amount your employer sends is the amount you get 🎉

If your salary is paid in another currency into a Foreign Currencies Account, some receiving methods do carry a small fee. You'll find every one of them in our Foreign Currencies fees article.

Can I get an IBAN from my own country instead?

Absolutely! When you sign up from Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, or Italy, the app connects you to your local branch, so you get a local IBAN straight from the start.

If you sign up from anywhere else in Europe, you get bunq's standard Dutch (NL) IBAN, which works everywhere in the SEPA zone. Want an IBAN from another European country? Verified bunq Pro and bunq Elite users can open an International Bank Account with a Belgian, German, French, Irish, Spanish, or Italian IBAN. Learn more about our International Bank Accounts.

Once your employer has your IBAN or Switch Service is set up, there's nothing left for you to do — your salary simply arrives, and you'll get a notification the moment it does.
